Mister Zimi's Summer Collection Is Sizzling
Adding swimwear to their offering, Mister Zimi's new collection stays true to their ethos of focusing on originality rather than trends...
Never ones to follow trends, but instead focus on creating waves of their own through the use of custom prints and strong silhouettes, Mister Zimi's latest collection is perfect for the woman that wants to stand out for all the right reasons.
With a strong 60s and 70s influence, the bold and colourful summer collection looks right at home in Spain, the location for the brand's latest campaign shoot, 'By The Sea', photographed by Amanda Fordyce. With the new addition of swimwear to the brand's offering, the team headed to the incredible 'La Muralla Roja' (Spanish for 'the red wall') a housing project on the coast Spain, which also served as inspiration for the collection's rich colours and strong geometric prints.
Each custom print was designed in-house and aptly named after Mister Zimi’s favourite seaside locations including Mykonos, Bora Bora, Phi Phi, Maui, Bondi and of course Uluwatu, a nod to the brands Bali origins.
Here we chat with the brand's creative director, Zoe Paul, to get the low-down on the latest collection, her favourite pieces and what other exciting plans are in the works for Mister Zimi.
The campaign imagery for new collection is amazing – how did you find yourself at La Muralla Roja Spain?
We have always wanted to shoot in Spain and we knew we had found the our place when we saw the amazing colours of La Muralla Roja. The walls were the perfect backdrop for our geometric prints and bold florals.
How has the brand evolved this season?
This season we have launched Zimi Swim, featuring five different shapes, and also produced a luxe range with two silk styles – the 'Harper' dress and 'Delilah' jumpsuit.
What are your personal faves from the new collection?
My favs are the 'Delilah' jumpsuit and 'Harper' dress – the silks look and feel amazing. Also the 'Luma' jumpsuit is super comfy – it’s like wearing PJ’s all day.
Print has always been a strong part of your brand, but this season has a strong 60s and 70s influence – why did you choose this era?
Most of our collections have a strong influence from the 60s and 70s because I love that era. It was rebellious, it was bold and it featured iconic silhouettes.
Why is it important for you to produce custom prints?
Our prints are what make Mister Zimi. Our aim is to produce relaxed, easy to wear pieces that make a statement and are unique.
What are some key shapes for Summer?
I can’t go past off the shoulder and jumpsuits this summer.
Swimwear is a new addition this season, why did you decide to add it to the range?
I believe there is a real gap in the market for good fitting, bold swimsuits – particularly one pieces.
What things are currently inspiring your design process?
I have learnt to look at things differently and am inspired by all sorts of things everyday - fabrics, old textiles, tiles, carpets.
What sets Mister Zimi apart from other brands?
Our bold, easy to wear prints of course!
What can we expect for Mister Zimi in the future?
We will be doing more swim and hoping to introduce more silks into the range. We are also looking to open more stores so keep your eyes peeled!
